Those of you who have followed my 3-Day efforts for a while may by now be familiar with my post-walk milkshake and/or frozen yogurt obsession. While I enjoy milkshakes and frozen yogurt generally, years can go by without my indulging. However, something about long-distance walking really makes me crave these tasty treats. In fact, I am happily anticipating the opening of a new milkshake shop in Arlington this summer which boasts 75 flavors!
So, you can imagine my delight earlier today when I heard a news report about the results of a recent study concerning how sugar affects the body in motion. Guess what? For athletes who work out for more than two hours at a time (and amazingly, I'm now part of that group!!), sugary foods and drinks are beneficial, allowing the body to replenish depleted stores of glycogen so that tired muscles can keep exercising. Bring on the milkshakes!
