Coming soon(ish) to a newstand near you!! Yesterday, I was interviewed by SmartMoney magazine about my breast cancer fundraising over the years. The author, Anne, received my name from a PR person from Convio, a provider of software and web services for non-profits. My friend, Rachel, works for Convio and provided my name to her boss, who was in communication with Anne.
Anne, who also has columns in the Wall Street Journal, is writing an article for SmartMoney about charity walks and runs. I spoke with her for about 30 minutes late yesterday afternoon. She asked several questions about how I fundraise and also was interested in learning more about the 3-Day.
One of the more interesting questions she asked was whether I had ever confronted anyone that I hoped would make a donation but had not. I said, "Absolutely not," which she seemed to think was rather odd. I explained that in addition to being a non-confrontational person by nature, the decision of whether to contribute to a charity event is a personal one. I'd never push someone to make a contribution, beyond sending the initial email. And maybe one or two follow-ups. :-) Besides that, the financial contribution is just one type of support. The good thoughts and prayers and months of encouragement are even more valuable to me.
The article is scheduled to run at some point in July. Before then, a "fact-checker" will contact me to make sure the article is accurate, and the publisher may even want to include a picture of me!
